RunDisney Dreaming: My Dream WDW Marathon

Hi all,

So I could do my usual “wow it’s been a while, here’s everything that’s been going on” blog but honestly lately I’ve been having major Disney daydreams so I want to write about… Disney!

I am already counting down the days until WDW Marathon Weekend 2019 (which is 148 days!) and I thought it would be fun to do some runDisney dreaming and create a fun WDW marathon route. I didn’t really set any rules for myself other than I needed to follow existing roads and paths and that it needed to get to 26.2 miles. As you will see I’m also assuming this is a VERY small race 😛

So with that let’s go!

My race would start… on Main St of course. I’m still bummed I didn’t do the Tink 5k which started (and hopefully will start again one day) on Main St at Disneyland. Being on Main St might make 5am feel a little nicer. From there I’d mostly follow the normal loop except we’d go into Adventureland instead of Fronteirland and Liberty Square. I just love the ambiance of Adventureland!

From there we’d exit and then go around the north side of the Magic Kingdom which hopefully will give us a glimpse of the monorail and train storage area!

From there we’re headed to the wilderness… Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness that is! I love running here (on my College Program I went up there many times to do my long runs because of the water fountains and shade). We’ll be there just around dawn probably which will be beautiful to take in the nature and calm over on that side of Bay Lake.

From there it’s time to wake up and there’s no better place to do that than in New Orleans with some on course beignets and a jazz band greeting runners! A quick run on the roads down to Port Orleans where we will travel down the Sassagula.

A quick dip into Old Key West and Saratoga Springs on the way to Disney Springs. We’ll run along that blue blue stream that runs through Disney Springs as the morning sun rises!

And then??? We are off to Typhoon Lagoon! I love this place and we’ll do a quick loop through while listening to some Beach Boys music and enjoying some shaved ice at the fuel stop. At this point we are half way there!

Now we are off to Disney Hollywood Studios where we will do a loop through Toy Story Land! There will be some potato barrels available for you if you need a quick snack.

Then we make the long trek to Animal Kingdom where we will run in the front entrance then around to Everest and exit out the normal Dinoland exit. There will be dole whips available at the fuel stop here, obviously!

So I still want to end at Epcot but I want to make one more fun loop so let’s run around Lago Dorado at Coronado Springs. Maybe grab some chips at the water stop and of course they will have the margaritas going should you want to grab a cool drink!

Finally, it’s time to head to Epcot where we’ll run around part of Crescent Lake and then end just inside World Showcase meaning you can cool down as you meander, eat, and drink around World Showcase. That sounds like the best ending to a 26.2 mile journey right?

So that’s my route! Maybe one day I can run this (and get all those yummy snacks too) but for now a girl can dream and look forward to her next runDisney race!

What’s your dream course?

You can make your own course here: https://www.maps.ie/distance-area-calculator.html

  1. I love everything about this except for there being no loop around the World Showcase. I would love the finish line to be right at Phineas and Ferb: Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure. So you come around the World Showcase and hook right towards Futureworld and finish with Spaceship Earth right behind the finish line.

    1. That would be awesome too! If you cut out the Coronado loop it would probably put you right about there. Maybe one FP for something in FW for each runner? In my ideal race they would just close off WS for the runners and it would be like the old end to Wine and Dine with good and drink available for all right after the race!
