Avengers Half Marathon 2014 – Expo

So another runDisney race has come and gone and well, it was pretty super!

I didn’t have a lot of time for this race so it was a quick trip. I drove the 6 hours down to LA on Saturday morning and left Sunday afternoon. I stayed at the Springhill Suites on the NW side of property and while I probably won’t spend the money to stay there again, it was a beautifully appointed room. Great place to stay if you are looking for a little more luxury without breaking the bank.

My main goals for running this race were 1) have fun and get tons of character pictures and 2) treat the race as a focused training run but don’t go all out. I followed both of these goals and had a great time!

So on with the report!

Expo

So as I stated above, this was a quick trip so I didn’t spend more than an hour at the expo. I got there around 1pm on Saturday and the bib pick up area was pretty empty.

I grabbed my bib and pin and then headed upstairs to the t-shirt pick up and vendor part of the expo. They had this cool walkway area welcoming you!

So I don’t normally complain about the goody bag but runDisney has gone way downhill. Literally it was the large bag check bag with a single snack size Clif bar in it. No additional flyers or coupons or any other filler. I don’t run races for the goody bags but it would be nice if there was more of an effort put into this part of the experience.

Anywho, on with it. I did a quick lap through the expo and saw the normal vendors. I grabbed a new spibelt since I had left mine at my house and grabbed an “I Did It!” shirt (which I quickly tucked away) and was on my way. The expo was also pretty light crowd wise at this point.

I went to the parks with some Disney friends and we hopped the train over to New Orleans Sq to ride the BEST attraction during the holidays at Disneyland…

Christmas tree!

Choo-choo!

Haunted Mansion Holiday!

The parks were pretty crowded and I was fading fast since I had woken up at 5am, so I started heading back to the room. I grabbed a chicken sandwich from the quick service place in the Grand California because everything was swamped in Downtown Disney. I then settled in for the night and put my feet up and just rested up for the next morning!

Flat Katherine (Poison Ivy) is ready for race day!
