It's been awhile since I've written a list of favorites and as always I've been learning to use new products. Here are my new favorite things in 2015!
1. iPod Nano Clip - This thing has been a life saver. I no longer run with my iPod Nano in my hand or in an arm band, this case keeps it secure and out of the way! This is the one I got:
- I am a convert to the thick runner headband thing and thank you RawThreads for once again being awesome!
- These things are no joke. I put them on my hiking boots and my running shoes and they stay put. I don't have to walk like a grandma over packed snow/ice. I've just been using the basic walk version and I'm excited to try others. AMAZING!
4. Boulder Running Company/Group Runs - I use to shy away from these not liking and "organized" running time but it has been a great way to meet new people and learn about running in a new town!
5. Wool - I have been converted to wool. I use to think it was just itchy and uncomfortable to wear but it's so warm and does the trick on cold days. Need to invest in more wool socks for both running and every day!
Rocking my handmade wool hat!
These are my new favorite things since 2015 started, what have you discovered in the new year?
So there are 3 things I really love about running and they are:
- Channeling my competitve side into something constructive
- Fun clothes/running gear
I love that I can justify shoes and fun tops because well, I need it to run, right?
One of my favorite brands is RawThreads (www.rawthreads.com)! They are seriously awesome.
One of my biggest problems as a runner is that running tops chaffe... bad. At the top of my boobs where the top of the tank top/bra hit, at the bottom of my boobs if the band rides up, side seams, armpit areas... basically anywhere there is a seam, I have issues. Not fun. This issue is greatly mitigated by wearing RawThreads.
Their stuff is lightweight, wicks sweat well, is super, super soft, and they have a ton of cute designs.
My love affair started with RawThreads as I was gearing up to run my first Disneyland race last year and was earning my first coast to coast medal, so naturally I needed to run that half marathon in this bad boy:
I fell in love. It didn't chaffe, it was super light weight, and so soft. I knew something was starting right then.
Since then I've run in many races wearing their stuff.
I also have 2 sweatshirts, 2 pairs of socks, 2 solid tanks (still to be worn at a race), and 2 pairs of shorts. It's super fun to throw on my Disney inspired gear for a normal training run, it just makes it feel... more magical.
It's been a slow accumulation but each item has been more awesome than the last and I still have my eye on a few more things.
I really want to wear this tank at the Star Wars Half Marathon...
If your skin/sweat combo doesn't do well with thick materials and heavy seams, I HIGHLY recommend trying them out. Their stuff isn't just cute, it's also completely practical AND reasonably priced.
BONUS: From now until Christmas they are running sales on different items so keep an eye out for discounts on awesome stuff!
Hope this tip serves you well and you fall in love with RawThreads like I did!

PSS RawThreads, if you are ever looking for an ambassador... you know where to find me!
So this post has been a long time coming... a LONG time coming. No, no, this isn't anything groundbreaking but rather a breakfast food review that I've wanted to do for a long time.
To start with, this company did not approach me to do a review, I just wanted to do it! I saw another blogger test these pancakes out and thought they looked awesome, so all opinions are my own. Now on with the show!
If there is one truth in my life, it's that I LOVE breakfast food. Now I'm not talking sausages and bacon but rather waffles, biscuits, pancakes, french toast,... well you get the picture. If it is sugar and carb laden and then can be covered in powdered sugar and/or syrup, I'm a fan.
As a pseudo health conscious runner, I was excited to hear about a breakthrough in pancake-ness. It's all the carb goodness but...but...also packed with protein (15-17g per serving) so it's win-win!
Here are the details.
FlapJacked currently comes in 3 flavors, Buttermilk, Cinnamon Apple, and Banana Hazelnut and packs a mean protein punch! You can go online and purchase a "sampler" package which include smaller sizes of each of the flavors. Each of the puches below made about 8 pancakes using a partially filled 1/3 cup scoop. (I'm not good at flipping large pancakes so that's about where I max out)
So I started with the Cinnamon Apple and let me tell you, I failed at life big time. I made the pan way to hot and then just had all the troubles. Luckily, I got a few good ones from that batch to taste test but more on that later.
After adding in the water, the batter becomes very liquidy but after giving it 3-5 minutes (I gave it a full 5) it sets up nicely!
Post 5 minute
Later, I more successfully made the Buttermilk pancakes and voila look at these beauties!
I then had brinner one night and finished up the experiment/taste test with the Banana Hazelnut.
So how did they tasted? What about the texture?
Banana Hazelnut takes top place followed by Buttermilk and then Cinnamon Apple. They were all fairly evenly matched though. You could taste the protein-ness of all the flavors though, and it does change the texture a bit too. It definitely tasted a bit different than my normal Aunt Jemima pancake mix. When I make pancakes with this batter again, I'll probably add in some of my own flavors like I do for my normal pancakes (a little extra cinnamon and vanilla never hurt anyone).
Tip for cooking - keep the temp really low. It says it on the package but they aren't kidding, I cooked my just below medium and it cooked well on my gas stove.
If you are a fan of pancakes but would like to get some protein to power your day, I definitely recommend giving FlapJacked a try!
About a week ago, I was contacted to see if I wanted to receive a free sample of an Ignite Naturals drink mix called INRefresh. While they didn't specifically ask for a review, I thought I was the least I could do!
First some details about the product:
"Your daily healthy drink filled with the riches of tropical and desert plants. Each serving of IN Refresh provides your body with natural fast-absorbing hydration properties from plants while retaining their full nutritional benefits."
This product is 100% plant based, vegan, Non GMO and gluten free! Sounds good to me!
I got three flavors to try, blueberry, dragonfruit lemon lime, and tangerine passion fruit. They sound delicious, right?
Before heading out for my run I mixed up a glass to get a feel for what it was like. Some dragonfruit lemon lime down the hatch!
It felt like any other electrolyte drink on the market, but it was nice to know that it was all natural and not chemical based. It wasn't gritty and it did have that saline feel to it on my tongue from the electrolytes, so you know they are in there.
What I loved most is that it came in these nice little pouches so it fit nicely in the hand pocket on my amphipod! I usually just take water with me on long runs but it was nice to mix it up a bit (get it mix, and it's a drink mix... your welcome... haha)
I started off with just water and I drank enough out of my water bottle to leave 8-12 oz which I then added the mix to my water, this time tangerine passion fruit. It was nice to take with me and the taste was delicious, the dragonfruit flavor tasted a little funny to me but the tangerine was DELICIOUS!
It didn't upset my stomach and kept me strong through the last 5 miles of my 9 miler. Since I carry my water bottle in my hand, it did foam at the top because of the agitation from being constantly shaken but it didn't bug me. Next to taste test the blueberry!
Thanks again to Ignite Naturals for the free sample and the water bottle!

Update: The blueberry is delicious too!
