Ear hats are great an all… but really IMO they aren’t that great. Here’s what I’d rather get at the finish line!Read More

Since this race occurred before the official runDisney organization was founded in 2010, runners got information from www.disneylandhalfmarathon.com.

Did you know Disneyland hosted a marathon?

While the Disneyland Half Marathon is the longest continous race held at the Disneyland Resort, they did host their one and only marathon on March 26, 1995 on the heels of the success of the inaugural WDW Marathon in January 1994. The coolest part of this race? They finished ON MAIN ST! That's right, the 2,200 marathoners that started at 7am finished inside the park. Get more info on this one and done event here!
Event is over, thanks for your support!
I'm so excited to be sharing with you all that I'm hosting my very own virtual run! This is something I've been thinking about doing for a little over a year and I've been working on getting everything together for a couple months now and FINALLY I can share it with YOU!
I'm sooo excited! Like seriously! So I'm pleased to announce that you can all participate in the...
So there is this theme park that's kind of having a big birthday coming up (the big 6-0) and I thought there couuldn't be a better way to connect Disney loving runners everywhere than by hosting a virtual race to celebrate this amazing birthday! Run 1 kilometer for every decade of Disney theme parks!
- When: July 17-19 (try to complete the 6k during the birthday weekend!)
- Where: Anywhere - it's a virtual race so you can run wherever is most comfortable for you
- How far: 6k or 3.7 miles, or however far you feel like running
- Cost: $35 - this includes the cost of shipping, all net proceeds will go to ALSF
- What Will I Get: A bib, an awesome 2.5" glittery medal (see below), and some other fun goodies! Race Packets will be mailed the week of July 6th.
Oh! Oh! And before I forget the glittery, 2.5", beautiful medal...
So as we look towards the end of the year and into our 2015 race calendar, it's always good to stop and reflect.
What went well this year?
What needs to be adjusted?
Is new gear worth trying?
What can make you a more confident runner in 2015?
My year, after setting a few new PRs, is unfortunately going out with a whimper. This year I ran 4 marathons, which is twice as many as I normally run and it has taken a toll on my body. My hip and knee have started hurting and I've started carrying a lot of tension in my shoulders because of it. With Avengers Half (yay!), then Dopey (yay! x4), and then Star Wars Weekend (yay! x3), taking time off completely, isn't in the cards since I'd like to finish all of these races upright.
So what's the plan? Basically, I'm going to just focus on endurance. These races will be run but not raced as I give my body time to recover a bit from the intense training I put it through this year. Also, I'm planning to work in more stretching and recovery into my routine more regularly. Recovery has always taken a backseat and again, it's showing in how my body is hurting more than usual after the training I put in this year.
Focus for the next 2 months: Put in the miles, don't worry about pace.
Once I get through January, I'll reevaluate but I'm hoping that building my endruace base will then set me up to start working in speedwork again and I can race another marathon in May of 2015.
So how is your year finishing up? What are your goals? What are your plans for 2015?
So have you wanted to check out a Bia Sport watch? It's a great new GPS enabled watch made by and awesome team (granted I'm biased) and I want to let you check it out!
I'll be at Disneyland's Rock Your Disney Side 24 hr event and I would love to show it off! I'm hoping to see how much of my day I can track.
Ever wanted to see what your GPS track would look like when you ride Big Thunder Mountain or Matterhorn? I'm going to find out!
If I were an artist I would bring these to life visually but you guys will just have to use your imaginations with my list!
Snow White - The original princess, since she's good at zenning out thanks to the Evil Queen, I think meditation is in order for this princess. Her sport - Yoga! You know she'll need some time to just be quiet when keeping house for seven little men!
Cinderella - She cleans, she keeps house, but it's not until she's dancing at the ball that she catches the eye of her man. She's definitely a ballroom dancer! Waltzes, foxtrots, and tangos would be a part of her happy ending.
Aurora - Growing up in the woods with some nutty women would lead any teen looking for some alone time in nature. Aurora must be a world class hiker by this point with all her nature walks.
Ariel - This one is a no brainer, swimmer! Even though she is now bound to the dry land with her legs, you have to believe that she'd still enjoy being back in her element by swimming in the ocean!
Belle - She reads books, she's very smart, and, oh yeah, her companion is her horse Phillipe! She's got to be all about equestrian sports, maybe even some polo to mix it up, but she definitely enjoys going for a brisk ride with her buddy.
Jasmine - I feel like she is a jack of all trades type princess. She loves adventuring and exploring so I feel like she would enjoy trying any sport! However, I think she fell in love with flying on her magic carpet ride and thus would enjoy hang gliding. She can travel anywhere and get a bird's eye view of any place with this form of transportation.
Pocahontas - She's one with nature and can paint with the colors of the wind, but really we all wanted to be Pocahontas when she was canoeing just around the river bend with Meeko. She definitely is a world class canoer/kayaker since she doesn't bat an eye at jumping off of a high waterfall.
Mulan - She kicks major butt and she's already proven herself, so where would she go from here? Iron Man. Mulan would totally want to play with the boys and push herself to complete the most intense challenge. You go girl!
Tiana - She's sassy and she knows what she wants from life. She doesn't need to find a man to be happy and loves the strength she find within, so I think this princess would be happy sweating it up in a cross-fit class. She's got to burn off all those beignets, right?
Rapunzel - She whips her hair back and forth like no one's business but I think this girl has some major ninja skills. I think she'd find her way to a karate class to learn how to get the biggest punch from her petite frame.
Merida - This one is a no brainer - she's totally a archer! I think she might even kick it up a notch and do a pentathlon! Riding horses, shooting things, being totally awesome - she'd be into it!
Anna - Now that Anna has started spending time with a rugged mountain man, I think she would start rock climbing. With ice picks, a fearless attitude, and an appetite for adventure, this sport is totally up her alley.
Elsa - She can shoot ice anywhere, I think she'd love running around and doing parkour! She could create stairs and slides wherever she wants, how fun would that be? If she wants to test a flip, let's create a nice soft snow bank to land in! When she's not shooting ice though, I think Queen Elsa would enjoy being alone and letting everything go on a quiet distance run alone.
That's my take, what do you think?
Oh My Disney announced yesterday the March magic tournament! It matches up your favorite WDW and DLR experiences and then on the Walt Disney World and Disneyland fan pages fans will vote in each round to move their team forward. Voting starts 3/18!!
This reminds me a lot of the WDW Today podcast, they did a very similar thing last year with a focus on just the WDW attractions. It was super fun! Check out the podcasts from last year's tournament here: Epsode 1008 Episode 1009 Episode 1014 Episode 1017
Check out all the fun here: Selection Sunday: See All 32 March Magic Teams
Also, they came up with these awesome team logos! Here are some of my favorites but you can check them all out at the link above.
You are not the first to pass this way, nor with you be the last... to be crushed!!!
One little spark of perspiration, is at the heart of all domination!
Fin, noggin', duuude... just keep winning!
There's no escaping now!
The wildest team in the wilderness!
Their tricks will keep you spinning!
I don't think your ready, for this yeti!
Dead men tell no tales.
You're going down!
They'll trade two of their shots for one of yours.
Which team do you think will take it all?!
Here we go!
- Let It Go - Frozen - I don't think I need to explain this one (especially if you read my WDW Marathon post ). This song has it all, good pace, great lyrics, and a TON of power! You can't help but sassy run to it!
- Dig a Little Deeper - Princess and the Frog - First, I LOVE Mama Oodie, she's a great character and second, this song rocks and really helps you dig a little deeper when those miles are feeling long.
- I Can Go the Distance - Hercules - This is the ultimate runner ballad, especially if you skip through the instrumental part. Thanks Disney!
- I'll Make a Man Out of You - Mulan - "Tranquil as a forest/But on fire within./Once you find your center/You are sure to win." Let's do this! I can run forever! Take that Huns!
- Universe of Energy - EPCOT Center - This is a throwback but I love it. It has that great classic EPCOT feel and it's just so fun! (In case you need a refresher: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hYoGfacCRM)
- You Can Fly! You Can Fly! You Can Fly! - Peter Pan - I feel like I could fly when I'm running sometimes and I love queuing this song up as I'm running in to MK!
- I've Got a Dream - Tangled - I use to put 'At Last I See the Light' on my list but then realized it overwhelms the emotions and when running this means hyperventilating = no fun. This song hits the spot though and is super fun to run sing-a-long/dance to.
- For the First Time In Forever - Frozen - So I made sure to space this one out but this one is blowing up my iPod too. So fun!
- In Summer - Frozen - So yep another one. This song is that BEST to run sing-a-long too. It has great lyrics and a great pace.
- Just Around the Riverbend - Pocahontas - So good! The way this song ebbs and flows (pun intended) is perfect for running so you can get some nice fartleks in! (Hehe... fart-leks... that will never not be funny to me)
My cat generally gives me this look when I'm singing at the top of my lungs...
