Another week of training behind me and it was full of election results and a week long training at work that threw off my schedule slightly. I had to be at work earlier that usual which took it’s toll on my sleep by the end of the week. I’m still not totally use to waking up before 5am to get in my run before work now that I’m working in a more 8-5 environment.
As a highlight though, I did get to make my Fastpass+ reservations on Saturday which means WDW Marathon Weekend 2019 is coming fast!
With that, let’s dive in:
Monday - Rest day! All the rest!
Tuesday - Plan: 6x800m at the track +warm up/cool down, Actual: 6x800m (3:21, 3:25, 3:26, 3:26, 3:29, 3:28) for a total of 6.2 miles with warm up and cool down. Going into this workout my goal was to run these under 3:40, my track workouts have been less than stellar lately so this felt like a conservative but doable goal. Then I laid out a 3:21 for my first 800 which didn’t feel that bad so I just went with it. Super thrilled with this workout!
Wednesday - Plan: 5 easy miles, Actual: 5 miles at 8:40/mi pace. These miles felt.. fine. Not great but my legs weren’t too beat up from the speed work the day before so it went better than I expected.
Thursday - Plan: 7 easy miles, Actual: 5 miles at 8:42/mi pace. I was really feeling the lack of sleep this morning and I just couldn’t get myself going so I had to cut the run short to make sure I made it to work/training on time.
Friday - Rest day!
Saturday - Plan: 16 easy/long run miles, Actual: 16 miles at 9:02/mi pace. This run felt good. No major pain except for a weird intermittent cramp in my quad that was there for about a mile around mile 13 but overall felt good. I’m trying to be smart about my training and not push it too much, I need to have patience and let the ramp up happen according to the plan. I also did some core and yoga after my run.
Sunday - Plan: 8 easy miles, Actual: 10 easy miles at 8:53/mi pace on the treadmill set at a 2% incline. I decided to add the two miles I missed on Thursday to this run. We got hit by a decent amount of snow so I decided to take my 10 miler inside. I just tried to zone out, listening to the Not Real Runners podcast and vaguely following the forensic show that was on the gym TV. The run was fine, I didn’t really feel like pushing it so I just remained on cruise control for the whole run.
Total Miles: 42.2 miles
Not a bad week. Along with all the miles I kept my plank and thanks streak going. I also felt great about my solid track workout and that my easy runs felt good and were at a good pace for me. This was the first weekend I was reminded of how difficult my Dopey Challenge training would be from here on out. All the back to back long runs which are tiring on the legs as well as on the soul but it’s all about just showing up and having patience!
What was I listening to?
Honestly, a lot of politics podcasts. My usuals are 1A and the Political Gabfest, but I do want to shout out to the Not Real Runners Podcast and their Wine and Dine review. They are so funny and I’m sad they’ve decided to end their podcast at the end of the year.
