We pause from the running to talk about numbers. Okay not boring numbers but numbers that relate to health, fitness, and overall wellness since I got to take part in the Cigna Blogger Meetup at the Odyssey building in Epcot!

Cigna is a big supporter of runDisney as well as all things health and fitness and they do a great job at enouraging and educating people to get up and move. Today was all about knowing your numbers!

Everything from cholesterol to BMI to blood pressure, these numbers inform us about how healthy we are and allow us to make the changes necessary to keep these numbers in control.

Do you get a yearly physical? Neither do I, but after hearing all about these numbers I'll definitely start. As a fit 20-something I fall into the category of not feeling like a physical is 100% necessary but getting a check up is one way to make sure you are on the right track. It's also good to get a check up because it may mean catching some diseases early, rather than when it's too late.

Do you know what your cholesterol number is? What about your blood pressure? If you LDL (bad cholesterol) number is above 190 this can put you at a real risk. If you blood pressue is above 120/80 it can put you in a pre-high blood pressure range. Above 140/90? Yep, you've got high blood pressure. These are indicators that can help you make sure you are eating right and getting the right level of fitness.

Through fun activities we got up and moved. We answered mulitple choice questions through different yoga poses and fitness movements, we tested our balance with our eyes closed, and we did other  activities that tested our brains and our brawn!

So what did we learn at the Blogger Meetup?

  • Get that annual check-up
  • Know your numbers so you can take care of your health.
  • Don’t be like the third of Americans who say they visit their health care professionals only when they are sick when they have a health problem. (aka me)
